Zoe’s ceramic work bridges the space between art and intentional design, exploring how handmade objects shape the rituals, habits, and environments of everyday life. Grounded in user-centered thinking, their practice considers how functional objects can elevate routine, invite intimacy, and foster a sense of belonging within domestic spaces.
Their ceramics are driven by a desire to solve everyday problems through thoughtful, intuitive design—considering how an object feels in the hand, how it lives within a space, and how it reflects the routines of its user.
Zoe’s design philosophy is deeply shaped by their love for Chicago. The city’s layered architecture, distinct residential buildings, and tight-knit creative communities have all informed their understanding of home. Through miniature studies of sentimental buildings and daily visual references gathered on bike rides through the city, Zoe celebrates the aesthetics and emotional weight of place.
This approach to design-as-care extends into Zoe’s role as cofounder and programming coordinator of The Digs, a Chicago-based nonprofit supporting working artists. The ethos of The Digs mirrors their artistic philosophy: functional, thoughtful, and always centered on human experience.
Their dual practice—both as an artist and organizer—is built on the belief that design and community are most impactful when rooted in empathy, responsiveness, and shared experience. Whether shaping clay or shaping systems, Zoe’s work invites a rethinking of how we move through the world, and how intentional design can deepen our connection to objects, routines, and the spaces we inhabit.
